Finding information about the law that is easy to understand can be difficult. The Foundation aims to demystify the law through programs that bring key legal information to the community.

SCHOOLS

The Foundation runs innovative events and produces quality resources for Victorian schools.

The Law Talks program is an outreach program offering regional and rural secondary school students access to the same kinds of legal information, programs and resources that are available in metropolitan areas. This program consists of a two-day school program aimed at VCE students. Various agencies participate in the Law Talks programs, including the Parliament of Victoria, Sentencing Advisory Council, Juries Commissioner, Department of Justice, Legal Services Commissioner, Financial Ombudsman Service, and the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. The Schools legal hub is a one-stop shop for Victorian teachers and students of VCE Legal Studies and VELS Civics and Citizenship. Here you will find links to up-to-date resources for both for both teachers and students. See: Schools Legal Hub
 

UNIVERSITY
The Chief Justice's Medal for Excellence and Community Service is awarded to one Victorian graduating law student who has demonstrated academic excellence in their legal studies and a commitment to community service. Each university nominates one student for the consideration of a selection panel. See: CJ's Medal.

Victoria Law Foundation is no longer offering the Legal Sector Internship Program. Applications have closed for 2012 and no further places will be offered. If you are interested in applying for an legal internship with a specific organisation please contact them directly.

COMMUNITY

The Victoria Law Foundation plays a lead role in the development and management of several important community websites.
 

The Victoria Law website provides access to plain language resources about the legal system and about legal issues that affect Victorians. It features a directory of legal sector agencies, as well as links to publications and resources in English and other languages. Victoria Law is developed in consultation with the Victorian legal and community sectors. See: Victoria Law

The Disaster Legal Help website was established in response to the 2009 Victorian bushfires, as part of a larger joint initiative established by Victoria Law Foundation and other legal service organisations to assist victims and survivors of the bushfires. The website addresses many of the complex legal issues that face victims and survivors as they rebuild their lives, including insurance, destroyed wills, the coronial process, and family law issues. The Victorian Legal Assistance Forum (VLAF) promotes collaboration and co-ordination in the delivery of legal services to socially and economically disadvantaged people in Victoria. See: Victorian Legal Assistance Forum
