Law Talks

Law Talks is a free legal education program for regional and rural secondary school students. The program is tailored to the year 11 and 12 VCE legal studies curriculum.

Experts from a wide range of Melbourne-based legal institutions visit schools to present talks on a range of topics. These institutions include:
 

  • Parliament of Victoria Education Office
  • Magistrates', County and Supreme Courts (including the Koori Court and Children’s Court)
  • Juries Commissioner
  • Sentencing Advisory Council
  • Law Institute of Victoria
  • Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
  • Victorian Law Reform Commission
  • Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission of Victoria
  • Financial and Telecommunications Industry Ombudsmen
  • Tarwirri/Indigenous Students and Lawyers Association of Victoria.


Indigenous court and police liaison staff and community Elders from participating regional areas also take part in the program.

The program was established in May 2007 and has visited schools in Gippsland, Loddon Mallee, Grampians, Hume and Barwon South West education regions.
