eastern Community Legal Centre
Intervention order DVD – $28,540
Working with Intervention Order Support Service agency partners, ECLC will develop and produce a short DVD for Intervention Order applicants and respondents to guide them with the application process, particularly on the court day.

Breaking the cycle: providing advocacy and support to people with disabilities in the criminal justice system – $80,802
This project will explore how to minimise the contact with the Victorian criminal justice system experienced by people with cognitive disabilities.
footscray community Legal Centre
Vietnamese outreach clinic and community education – $62,500
Footscray CLC will be funded to expand their pilot project which provides legal advice and casework services to Vietnamese clients. This pilot was implemented after a survey, funded by the Victoria Law Foundation, found that language was a significant barrier to the Vietnamese Community seeking legal help. The one-year project will document the impact of the project for the Vietnamese community to assess the ongoing need for this clinic.
Royal children's hospital foundation ltd
Making the law practical for families and paediatricians – $35,000
This project is a collaboration between lawyers, paediatricians at the RCH, and families attending the RCH. The project will examine families’ and paediatricians’ understanding about the law of informed consent in common paediatric medical practice scenarios.
Central Highlands Community Legal Centre
Youth liaison lawyer project – $13,006
To employ a lawyer (part-time) at Ballarat’s ‘Youth Head Quarters’ information and resource centre to engage with young people and inform them about their legal rights and responsibilities.
Children’s Court of Victoria
Virtual court project – $28,548
To create an online ‘virtual court’ experience that will educate people about how the Court works and what to expect when they attend.
Coroners Court of Victoria
Coronial community education project – $28,000
To produce a legal education kit to assist with understanding of the Court, particularly the legislative changes introduced by the Coroners Act 2008, such as its new ‘specialist inquisitorial’ jurisdiction.
Disability Advocacy and Information Service
Albury Wodonga justice support network – $14,616
To extend their successful Albury-based volunteer support service into Wodonga. The service provides assistance to offenders, victims and witnesses with an intellectual disability, who interact with solicitors and the courts.
Immigrant Women’s Domestic Violence Service Inc
Identifying barriers to the law faced by CALD victims of family violence – $47,578
To research barriers to accessing the justice system, as faced by victims of domestic violence from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to initiate dialogue between these communities and legal service providers.
West Heidelberg Community Legal Service Bulk negotiation for the disadvantaged – $50,000
To investigate awareness of and compliance with legal protections against debt recovery afforded to people on low incomes.

To establish legal outreach clinics at hospitals and health agencies in regional Victoria which will be staffed by pro bono regional lawyers and provide legal advice and education.

Reforming the law for injecting equipment - syringe vending machines in Victoria - $20,950
To undertake a review of the existing laws in Victoria that preclude the installation of Syringe Vending Machines (SVMs) in Victoria and set out what legislative reform is required to enable SVMs to be installed.
Arts Law Centre of Australia Artists in the black go visiting - $8,677
To deliver workshops in regional Victoria to Indigenous artists on legal issues which are relevant to their work.
Castan Centre for Human Rights Law Writing for human rights - $20,000
To introduce Victorian year 11 and 12 teachers and students to topical human rights issues.
Deakin University Rural disadvantage and the law– $36,470
Through consultations and a survey of legal and advocacy organisations across rural and regional Victoria, this research project will investigate the nature and extent of disadvantage which may be experienced by rural communities in the administration of the law, compared to their metropolitan counterparts.
Law Institute of Victoria Interpreter fund scoping project– $24,711
A project to increase access to justice in Victoria by identifying unmet demand for funding of interpreter services in civil litigation and making recommendations for the establishment of an Interpreters Fund using research and consultation with stakeholders to develop a detailed proposal for implementation.
Monash University Guidance for children engaged in social networking on the internet - $39,937
This project will research the risks of social networking as experienced by Victorian secondary school students, teachers and parents such as threats to privacy and intellectual property and identity issues. It will examine the current regulatory environment and, drawing upon the practices of Victorian students and several US and UK studies, prepare a report identifying legal risks and proposed solutions, including suggestions for law reform. It will also produce educational resource material focusing upon legal risk awareness raising and prevention.
Multicultural Sudanese Centre Sudanese legal information project – $25,000
To provide Sudanese communities, particularly young people, with legal information which will raise awareness and understanding of relevant legal issues and help reduce incidents of drug and alcohol abuse, crime, gambling and public transport fare evasion.
Office of Public Advocate Independent third person DVD - $37,425
To produce a DVD which explains to Victorian Police the benefits of utilising volunteer independent third persons when interviewing or taking statements from victims, witnesses or alleged offenders who have a cognitive impairment.
Office of Public Prosecutions The road ahead - $16,930
To develop and produce an information booklet on the criminal justice system process, for the families of deceased victims who have died as a result of serious crime.
Peninsula Community Legal Centre Valuing volunteers kit project - stage 3– $39,031
To update and produce two new modules for the Valuing Volunteers Kit to assist Victorian community legal centres to design and manage quality volunteer programs.
PILCH Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic Innovative online learning and education tool - $30,000
To improve the functionality and reach of the Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic’s online legal education tool, the Homelessness Law and Advocacy Resource Manual, to better equip HPLC and community sector lawyers to deliver services to homeless and other disadvantaged and marginalised clients.
University of Melbourne Analysis of Children’s Court Clinic reports ordered by the Children’s Court of Victoria - $39,684
To access and analyse, for the first time, clinic reports on child protection made to the Children’s Court and identify patterns in relation to the court’s decisions.
Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) Aboriginal English in the courts kit - $11,750
To reprint the Aboriginal English in the Courts Kit which provides tips on communicating with Indigenous Australians.
Youthlaw Rural, regional and remote legal needs and issues project - $13,000
To work with groups of young people in rural, remote and regional locations in Victoria to identify and document their legal needs and issues and, engage young people in advocacy activities. There will be a strong focus in the project on the experiences of vulnerable and marginalised young people.
