To conduct a seminar and prepare materials for not-for-profit organisations regarding legal issues in relation to reporting allegations of child abuse.

Federation of Community Legal Centres (Vic) Inc

Updating CLE made easy - $4,159

To update CLE Made Easy, an online guide and resource for community development and legal education workers in the community legal sector.

Flat Out Inc

Centre for the human rights of imprisoned people - $5,000

To write a Decarceration Framework for community legal centres and other community organisations and to conduct research and prepare a comparative analysis report on possible models of funding and structures for the Centre for the Human Rights of Imprisoned People.

Human Rights Law Resource Centre

Human rights caselaw database - $4,500

The Human Rights Caselaw Database provides free, online, fully searchable access to domestic, comparative and international human rights case law. This Project will enable the Database to be fully maintained and up-dated monthly. It will also enable access to entries in an accessible format for people with disability.

Employment law-based education program for rural and regional Victorians.

2009 Opening of the legal year - $2,500

To part-fund a non-denominational event to mark the opening of the Legal Year in 2009, where members of the public are also encouraged to attend.

To publish a card and website for youth detailing where to go for help regarding employment law issues.

Mental Health Legal Centre

Focus group test of the 7th edition of Patients’ Rights - A Self-Help Guide to the Victorian Mental Health Act - $2,340

To convene a focus group consisting of consumer of mental health services to review the 7th edition of the Patients’ Rights booklet and conduct a group discussion to collect information and evaluate the booklet prior to the publishing of the 8th edition.

Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service

Prison legal education and assistance project (PLEA) - $4,495

To provide monthly court readiness seminars and library assistance to inmates at the Metropolitan Remand Centre, compile a prisoner’s legal handbook for inmates and to provide bi-monthly court focused experiential learning seminars.

Mabo litigation collection - $4,987

The Mabo litigation is acknowledged as one of the most significant cases relating to indigenous rights in Australia (Mabo v. Queensland - 1989 and 1992).  This project will organise, index and copy 70 arch-lever files of litigation materials generated by the Mabo case for a research collection.

All you need to know about Victoria’s new relationship register - $3,046

To research and publish a step-by-step guide to educate the legal community and the public about Victoria’s new relationship register. The booklet will provide information on how to register relationships and on substantive requirements for and consequences of registration.

Relationship breakdown: all you need to know about relationship agreements, property and maintenance - $4,476

To research and publish an educational booklet for the legal community and the public on new Victorian law on relationship agreements. The booklet will provide legal information on the consequences of relationship breakdown for unmarried couples in terms of property and maintenance.

R v Wei Tang judgment - community legal education - $5,000

To explain the significance of R v Wei Tang to trafficked women, community organisations and the wider public.

RMIT University

Scoping study for attrition of lawyers in Victoria - $5,000

This project scopes the potential and design of a large scale attrition study of lawyers in private practice in Victoria.  It will undertake cross sectional and longitudinal analyses by sex of Legal Services Board practicing certificate data (1998-2008) and identify the most appropriate methodology for a detailed attrition study.

South Sudan Equatorian Association

Sharing cultural difference conference - $1,800

To conduct a participatory conference to educate the community on ways of engaging positively in Australian society. Speakers will provide legal education, and financial and settlement information to the Sudanese community in areas of law that affect the community in their everyday lives.

University of Melbourne

Impact of variable rate mortgage early termination fees on low income homeowners - $4,150

Investigate and produce research report and booklet for vulnerable home owners with variable rate mortgages who have recently been ‘locked into’ mortgages with lenders. The project investigates the extent to which the law provides consumers with a remedy to challenge excessive termination fees and aims to suggest law reform avenues that may be necessary.

To produce the 50th edition of the VCOSS publication, Just Policy which will focus on governance in the not-for- profit sector

Bushfire Legal Help - CLE factsheet project - $5,000

To assist with the development of fact sheets to provide information on the legal issues arising for victims of the bushfires.

Victoria Legal Aid

Victorian Legal Assistance Forum website creation and maintenance - $5,000

To develop a website for Victorian Legal Assistance Forum and acquire domain name. The Forum is designed to promote collaboration and co-ordination of legal services for socially and economically disadvantaged people in Victoria.

West Heidelberg Community Legal Service

Empowering and capacity building local community to broker better human rights outcomes - $4,990

To empower disadvantaged Victorians in the West Heidelberg area (and the workers most likely to come into contact with them) to be better able to advocate and negotiate improved human rights outcomes under the Victorian Human Rights and Responsibilities Charter 2005.

New graffiti laws card project - $3,000

To produce a small card to inform young people about new graffiti law and available legal options.
