Our General Grants round is open for applications. We're looking for projects that help Victorians understand the law with a priority on Law Week events and legal information projects. In our last grant round, Barwon Community Legal Service received a General Grant to develop pop-up legal health check stalls across the Barwon region.
'We can help with a huge range of legal issues, including things like unpaid fines, rental problems or family violence, so we’re hoping our pop-ups help raise awareness of our services in an interactive way,' said Jillian Chapman from Barwon Community Legal Service.
During Law Week 2016, the service ‘popped-up’ in three shopping locations in Geelong and Colac with a giant-sized, air-powered cabinet filled with prizes. More than 1200 people passing by took the opportunity to grab a prize and take part in a free legal health check.
Lawyers and experienced staff provided free legal advice and information at the stalls to help people identify legal issues and to provide tools and knowledge of how best to deal with it.
