Building on the foundation of previous years, Law Week 2016 was a resounding success, with record numbers of Victorians attending over 100 events throughout metro and regional Victoria. This year's program continued to challenge people's perceptions of the law with a range of events, from mock trials and panel discussions to workshops; information sessions; tours; debates; mock trials; musical performances and even a flash mob.
Many events sold out in the lead-up to Law Week, proving that there was a high demand for information on the topics covered. The variety of topics included:
- wills and powers of attorney
- family law
- keeping women out of prison
- ageing and the law for seniors’
- law and cancer
- contract and craft
and many more that were rich in content for all attendees.
There were also a number of pop-up legal health checks administered by community legal centres across metro and regional Victoria that assisted the community in assessing their legal situation in an informal environment, again breaking down the barriers of the law and our legal system.
We are now gearing up for an even bigger and better event in 2017. From Monday 15 May to Sunday 21 May 2017 Law Week will run across the state of Victoria, and continue to deliver fun, informative and engaging events to make the law easier for the community.
