About the project
This project sought to reduce the practice of ignoring laws protecting the basic income of low-income earners among financial institutions. The first stage of the project, funded by the foundation, involved conducting research into bulk negotiation practices and sharing the findings with other community legal centres and stakeholders.
The second phase included a bulk negotiation on behalf of 410 clients experiencing financial difficulties with creditors. West Heidelberg Community Legal Service then produced a report on the effectiveness of their bulk negotiation in this context.
Outcome of the project
The project has successfully negotiated waivers of approximately $3.2 million of debt for the debtors.
