The event involved sharing food whilst musicians entertained with traditional songs with a theme of female empowerment. Victoria Police members, family violence response workers, NCLC’s family violence lawyer and community development workers were available to provide information on legal supports available to women and the community more generally.
NCLC provided information packs with resources translated into Arabic including information on legal and non-legal family violence services and information on general legal issues and the role of the community legal sector within Australia. Over 50 members of the newly arrived Syrian and Iraqi refugee community attended the event with many children also enjoying the activities. The feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive.
