About the project
A grant to scope and support the establishment of a centre that would respond to the growing inequity between rural, regional and metropolitan Victoria in the administration of the justice system and its provision of services and programs.
Outcome of the project
The project was successful in scoping the key considerations required in the development of the Centre for Rural Regional Law and Justice and in laying the foundations for its establishment.
This culminated in the project successfully gaining funds from Deakin University to establish the centre, and the appointment of a director and a research fellow. The centre was formally opened by the Chief Magistrate of Victoria, His Honour Ian Gray, on 14 February 2012. The centre advisory committee also held its inaugural meeting on that date.
