2019/20 Grants open in July 2019
Small Grants are available if your project budget is less than $5000 (excl. GST). Small Grants support projects that improve community understanding of the justice system where there is evidence of legal need. You can apply for a Small Grant at any time – there are no closing dates.
Community Legal Grants
Community Legal Grants support projects that improve understanding of civil legal issues and the Victorian justice system, where there is evidence of community need. Community Legal Grants are for projects up to $20,000. You can apply for a Community Legal Grant at any time – there are no closing dates.
Knowledge Grants reflect our new focus on civil law and research. These grants will support organisations to develop their capacity to collect data, analyse and share information about civil legal need. Grants of up to $50,000 are available. You can apply for a Knowledge Grant until COB Monday 26 August 2019.
Before you apply
You should contact the Grants Manager prior to submitting your application. The Grants Manager can provide feedback on your project proposal, indicate if it meets selection criteria and advise if sufficient funds are available, giving your application the best chance of success.
Submitting your application
Submitting a grant application is easy. Simply follow these steps.
Step 1 – complete the application form
The first step is to complete the relevant application form.

- Knowledge Grants application form
- Make sure you have checked the eligibility requirements and understand the purpose of our different grant types.
- Get someone outside your organisation to read your application
- Keep your application clear, concise and to the point. A short application is not necessarily a bad application.
Step 2 – submit your application
Once you have your application, submit it through our 'Grant application portal' below.
You will receive an automated email when you have submitted your application. If you do not receive this email in your inbox or junk mail folders within 24 hours, please contact our Grants Manager.
