Talks to gain insight into the Law

We arrange for speakers to meet with local students to share their professional life and experiences.

Talks can be directly relevant to the VCE curriculum or cover broader topics of civics and citizenship.

The smaller Classroom Law Talks and the larger Student Law Talks provide students with an invaluable insight into the Law and the world they live in.

Our Student Law Talks are free to attend.

Classroom Law Talks

Classroom Law Talks are held at your school, in class or at a local court, and each session is tailored to meet the needs and interests of your students. Our speakers include regional circuit judges and barristers.

Eligibility

Schools are eligible for Classroom Law Talks based on speaker availability throughout the year.

Student Law Talks

Each year we host several day-long events around Victoria that offer a program of speakers from across Victoria’s legal sector.

Experts from Victoria’s courts and other legal institutions help students link the lessons learnt in classrooms with the real world. Speakers share their experiences as legal professionals with the opportunity for students to ask questions.

Presenters have included professionals from Juries Victoria, the Victorian Ombudsman, VLRC and university law schools.

Eligibility

All VCE Legal Studies students are eligible to attend Student Law Talks. Priority early registration is given to students attending disadvantaged schools as identified by the ICSEA.

Student Law Talks occur in venues around the state, including the Melbourne legal precinct. These venues dictate the number of students who can attend. We can usually accommodate up to 200 students in each session.
