The hidden legal crisis in rental housing
Join us to discuss the critical links between housing insecurity and legal need.
Rental housing issues such as evictions, rental stress, urgent repairs, and bond recovery are among the most common civil legal challenges in Victoria.
These issues often go unrecognised as legal problems and disproportionately affect low-income renters and people experiencing disadvantage.
The Research Network webinar brings together insights from new research that explores the intersection of housing insecurity and legal need.
Moderated by VLF's Lynne Haultain, Hannah Gray (Tenants Victoria) and Dr. Hugh McDonald (VLF) will discuss what this means for legal assistance services, policy makers, and community services.
The session draws on new analysis of data from the VLF's Public Understanding of Law Survey (PULS) and Tenants Victoria's Restricted, Resilient, Resourceful: Legal Help-Seeking Among Single-Parent Renters to highlight how legal need varies by housing status, how renters experience legal systems, where support is falling short, and how the sector can respond.
This webinar is an opportunity to
- gain insights into the hidden legal dimensions of housing insecurity
- discover opportunities to strengthen legal outcomes for vulnerable communities
- Be part of the conversation with a live Q&A session.
